Release Day Blitz ~ Forever Ours by Cassia Leo

Happy Release Day Cassia Leo!
Today we're celebrating the release of Forever Ours.
Forever Ours is the highly anticipated prequel to the New York Times and USA Today bestselling Shattered Hearts Series. This should be before Relentless.

Sometimes, it takes more than love to mend a shattered heart.

After eight years of being tossed around from one home to another, never forming any meaningful friendships or bonds with her foster families, Claire's caseworker gives her an ultimatum: Behave or your next home will be a halfway house.

When fifteen-year-old Claire arrives at the home of Jackie Knight and meets Jackie's fifteen-year-old son, tattooed guitarist Chris, she fears she'll be seeing the inside of that halfway house soon. But Chris isn't like any other guy Claire has ever encountered and he soon gains her trust through his music and unwavering patience.

Claire has finally found her forever home and she and Chris soon find themselves falling in love.

But Chris’s dreams of musical stardom and Claire’s need for a stable home soon put their love in jeopardy. Chris struggles deeply with his plans for the future, entirely reluctant to leave Claire behind; until Claire does something that may break their love — and the only home she’s comes to know — forever.

Chapter Eleven

Forever Addicted

I tumble out of bed and drag myself out of my bedroom and into the hallway. When I push open the bathroom door, my eyes widen at what I’ve stumbled upon. Claire is standing next to the toilet, holding her new cell phone over the toilet bowl. Her lips are pressed together in a hard line across her delicate face.
“What the fuck?” is the first thing that slips out of my mouth.
“I don’t want this thing anymore.”
“Please don’t drop it in the toilet.”
“What is the point of having a cell phone if you never answer it?”
Oh, shit. She’s had this phone two months and it’s turned her into a crazy person. I don’t dare say this out loud, but I’m beginning to wish I’d gotten her something else for her birthday.
If I don’t call her back within a few minutes, she accuses me of playing games. If she doesn’t call me back right away, it’s because she was busy. I don’t think she even realizes how insane this sounds.
“What do you want me to do? Just tell me what you want and I’ll do it.” I inch closer to her and she smiles when she realizes she has my attention. “You want me to promise I’ll never wait more than five minutes to call you back? Would that make you happy?”
She loses the smile and purses her lips. “This phone has turned me into an addict. I look at it every two minutes to check for missed calls and texts from you. It’s sick!”
I reach for her wrist and slowly move my hand down until the phone is in my hand. I place it gently on the bathroom counter, then I look her in the eyes.
“Babe, you’re not addicted to your phone. You’re addicted to me.”
“Shut up!” she smacks my chest and I try not to laugh too loud.
I wrap my arms around her waist and pull her against me. She’s breathing hard as my lips hover over hers. “Don’t you have to get ready for school?”
“It’s a late day. I don’t have to be at school for two and a half hours.”
I smile. It actually makes me happy that I can’t remember what day is a late day anymore since I quit school. The only regret I have about quitting school is that Claire is alone now. With Jake and Rachel graduated, and Tristan hanging out with his new girlfriend, Ashley, Claire says she spends most of her time outside of class reading.
“Good, ‘cause I have plans for you…. I gonna text you for two hours straight.”
“You’re such a jerk!”
She tries to push me away and I lean in to kiss her. At first she closes her mouth, but she laughs when I plant a loud kiss on her cheek. And I seize the opportunity to kiss her hard.
Seconds later, we’re lying on my bed, the sheets bunched up beneath her and my hand easing down her waist to her hip. She grabs my hand to stop me and I smile as I move my hand up. I trail my lips over her smooth jaw and plant a soft kiss on her neck. I hear a sniffing noise and I quickly pull my head back, afraid she’s crying.
“Oh, my God. You smell so good,” she says, leaning forward so she can sniff my shoulder.
“Really?”
She grabs fistfuls of my T-shirt and brings them to her nose as she inhales. “Yes! Is that some kind of cologne or something?”
“No, it’s laundry soap and you use the same one.”
“No, it has to be something else.”
I reach up and lightly drag my fingertip across her jawline. “Yeah, it’s laundry soap and my pheromones, which you obviously can’t get enough of. Addict.”
“Shut up.”
“What? There’s nothing wrong with that. I can’t get enough of your scent either.” I bury my face in the crook of her neck and she lets out a soft gasp when I lick her skin. “You smell sweet and salty at the same time, like raspberries with a hint of the beach. It’s fucking intoxicating.”
“Really?” she breathes. “That’s what I smell like to you?”
I nuzzle my nose against the sensitive spot behind her ear and she giggles softly. “See what you do to me? I can’t get enough of you.”
I kiss her neck and her skin is so soft, I want to devour her. But I respect her boundaries. So minutes later, we’re on my bike on the way to drop her off at school.  As usual, she plants a kiss on the front of my helmet, leaving a kiss mark on the glass. Then she bats my hand away when I try to grab her ass as she walks away.
Something about this feels too perfect. I keep waiting for my mom to tell me that Claire’s being moved to another foster home. Or that my mom will find out about us and Claire’s caseworker will have her removed from our home.
Something bad is coming. It could be next week or next year. All I know is that this can’t continue the way it has. It’s too perfect. Nothing in my life has ever been this good or easy.

Four science fiction and fantasy novellas for young adults.

At Conclave Manor, land-trapped Mermaid Thala Tellurian struggles to accept her privileged life while battling her self-obsessed Uncle in any petty way she can. Isolated and forbidden to delve into her family’s bloody past, Thala longs for change. So, when visitors from a rival pod reveal a hidden agenda, Thala dives straight in. But it’s not until she’s face to face with her family’s lifelong enemy that she realises she’s in terrifyingly unfamiliar waters.

Rowan knew nothing about the secret in his DNA until he found himself on the Terrean team bound for Conclave Seven, the universal Games held every millennia. But on the eve of the Games, knowing he’s a direct descendant of the warrior Spartacus is looking less like a gift and more like a death sentence…

Born into captivity, Doze has spent his life behind the Fence, so when staying there is no longer an option, he takes a chance to see if another life is possible. An experiment on the loose from ConClave Corporation, Doze helps his travelling companions to avoid capture, and discovers that there is no sacrifice too great for freedom.

On the Conclave Pacifica, a spaceship in a fleet heading to a new world, Peach forges an online friendship with Araxi, who is travelling on another ship. But, wildly off course and under pressure for resources, the future of the Conclave Pacifica looks uncertain. Could Peach’s new friend be the answer to her survival?

This collection of science fiction fantasy tales for young adults is an absolutely fascinating read.

Moving between intergalactic warring Merfolk to a community suppressed and controlled by an all powerful company; from life and death game-playing teenagers, to lost-in-space explorers, Conclave is a collection of intense adventures.

While written with young adults in mind, I was completely won over by each author’s ability to drawn me into their strange and fanciful worlds. This talented group of women each with an individual voice and writing style had me holding my breath in anticipation many times with their amazing tales of life threatening journeys, and death defying heroics. There is so much to love about these short stories that I almost wish they were longer. I’d love to read more, to find out what happened next!

Four completely different stories with one common thread, Conclave is an absolutely fascinating read. 5 Stars

L to R: Piper Mejia, Celine Murray, Lee Murray, Jan Goldie
Jan Goldie. I’m a working writer, creating content for websites, print media and social media. I have a BA in English literature and a Graduate Diploma in Journalism. Interestingly, I used very few of these skills in the creation of A Mer-tale, relying instead on my over-active imagination. When I'm not slaving over the computer for my day job or imagining myself 30 metres beneath the waves, I'm writing short stories, picture books and YA fantasy novels. My most recent claims to fame are the publication of a story in the crowd-funded collection of short horror fiction Baby Teeth: Bite-sized Tales of Terror, and my YA fantasy novel Brave’s Journey being short listed for the 2014 Storylines Tom Fitzgibbon Award.

Piper Mejia
is a prolific writer, but only recently had her first story, Lockdown, published in Baby Teeth: Bite-sized tales of Terror. A high school English teacher, she is co-editor of student writing collections Write Off Line 2012, 2013, Beyond This Age and Beyond This Story, and is currently working on a young adult fantasy trilogy in both novel and graphic novel formats.

Celine Murray
is 19 years old and has had her fiction published in magazines such as WriteOn, Easy Going, and Breeze, and in the horror anthology Baby Teeth: Bite-sized Tales of Terror. She has also published a solo collection of prize winning fiction entitled Seven to Seventeen.

Lee Murray
used to be a scientist, but now she writes fiction for adults and children. Lee has twice won the Sir Julius Vogel Award for science fiction and fantasy writing, most notably for Best Youth Novel for her children’s title Battle of the Birds, and her short fiction has achieved international recognition. She is the co-editor of five collected works. www.leemurray.info

Guest Post and Giveaway ~ Daniel de Lorne

It is my pleasure to welcome author Daniel de Lorne, to My Book Chatter today to chat about characters from his recent book Beckoning Blood...

Daniel de Lorne, In love with an extrovert called Olivier

Like most writers, I’m an introvert. That doesn’t mean I shun all forms of social interaction, I’m just selective about how I spend my time around others. I’ll go to parties but I probably won’t be the centre of attention, and I’ll tend to find one or two people to have a more in-depth conversation with.

In this respect, I’m a bit like Thierry, one of the main characters in my book Beckoning Blood. He’s the one who keeps out of sight, the overlooked one, and sometimes, completely invisible – literally. He likes the quiet life. Or at least he would, if his twin brother Olivier weren’t around.

Thierry, trailing behind, was almost invisible. And that’s how he liked it. While not totally see-through, he’d let his ability take over and faded into the background, no need for a smile he didn’t mean. It allowed him to cast his attention further afield, and see what was really going on.

Now, Olivier is an extrovert, most assuredly. In fact, he’s such an extrovert that people can’t help but be drawn to him. Call it magnetism. Call it charisma. Call it the unholy effects of vampiric blood. Whatever you call it, Olivier has it and the rest of us are slaves to its power.

Even me.

While the romance in Beckoning Blood is largely about Thierry’s lost love and how he reclaims it, a good part of the book is about the dynamics between the twin brothers. Because of their natures, it’s easier to be attracted to one more than the other. And for many (and me) that’s Olivier.

But don’t be fooled by his charm and how easy he is to love. He’s a psycho. Plain and simple. But aren’t all the best psychos the ones who barely have to do anything to make you fall under their spell?

Olivier had always been good at seduction. When he was human, both sexes were drawn to him without much persuasion, for better or worse, but now it radiated from him with the force of the sun. His voice, his eyes, his whole body was irresistible.

And sure, he murders a lot of people, taking sadistic glee in the process but when it comes to being ensnared by the bad boy, you’d be surprised how much you can justify away.

Olivier relished the sight of the terrified man. He loved the feeling of pressing down on this human, his arms strong enough to hold him in place without a thought, without the technical knowledge required to fire a gun, the precision with which to look, to measure the wind and the angle and to pre-empt the intentions of his prey. In comparison, this was blunt and primal, but far more pleasing.

Olivier was definitely the easier character to write. He’s got his problems, for sure. There’s a whole host of daddy issues going on, and if Thierry would just give in, then maybe Olivier would cut down on the slaughter. Maybe. But would we really want him to? And don’t we just a guy with problems because it makes us think he’s redeemable. Who knows? Maybe Olivier is. Only time will tell.

Beckoning Blood release date May 1, 2014

A gripping, blood‐drenched saga about twin brothers, the men they love, and the enduring truth that true love never dies – no matter how many times you kill it.

Thierry d’Arjou has but one escape from the daily misery of his work at a medieval abattoir – Etienne de Balthas. But keeping their love a secret triggers a bloody chain of events that condemns Thierry to a monstrous immortality. Thierry quickly learns that to survive his timeless exile, he must hide his sensitive heart from the man who both eases and ensures his loneliness...his twin brother.

Shaped by the fists of a brutal father, Olivier d’Arjou cares for only two things: his own pleasure and his twin. But their sadistic path through centuries is littered with old rivals and new foes, and Olivier must fight for what is rightfully his – Thierry, made immortal just for him.

Daniel de Lorne writes mostly about the loves and trials of hot and sexy paranormal men – and creatures. He grew up in Perth, Western Australia, and developed a fascination for the mythical and magical early on. Daniel wrote stories from a young age but it was high school biology class he remembers fondly as providing an excellent cover for writing stories that were filled with teen angst and fantastical creatures. He now lives in Canada with his partner. It was while in this great northern frontier that Escape Publishing accepted his first book, Beckoning Blood, for publication.

Maggie had her entire life planned out since the age of twelve, looks like the joke was on her. As all of her carefully laid plans begin to fall apart she jumps at the opportunity to get away and spend a carefree summer down south.

When she arrives at Devereux Manor it all seems too good to be true. The home is beautiful, the town is inviting, and the sexy gardener promises to make this a summer she won’t soon forget.

However the more she learns about the elusive Ms. Devereaux she begins to realize that the conveniently placed ad in front of her dorm room may not have been the happy coincidence that it once seemed. Maggie isn’t the only one who Ms. Devereaux has lured to the plantation, and Ms. Devereaux isn’t the only one with secrets to hide.

“We come from different worlds,” he told her as he slowly began unbuttoning her blouse. “Our paths would never have crossed if we hadn’t both been brought to this place.” He pulled her blouse open and slowly trailed a finger down from her collarbone to her waist. She arched her back at his touch. “And I know that I’ve never done anything good enough to deserve you,” he continued as he placed a soft kiss on her abdomen.

“That’s not true,” Maggie argued breathlessly. “You don’t see yourself like I do.”

“No one does,” he whispered just before he claimed her mouth in a searing kiss.

I grew up in Southern California, but as a teenager moved with my family to a small town in Arkansas. It was there that I met my husband, who had also recently moved to the state. Fate brought us both to that same small town and into each other’s lives and it is where we remain today raising our two children and living out our happily ever after. As you can probably tell I’m a hopeless romantic.

I began my writing career in 2009 with the publication of my first novel Love’s Fate, which quickly grew into a romantic series. Since that first day that I sat down to write I haven’t been able to stop. Writing is my passion and has become a necessary part of my life. Sometimes there are stories that just beg to be told.
