It is my absolute
pleasure to have author Jodi Linton, drop by My Book Chatter today for a
chat about her new book Pretty Reckless.
Welcome Jodi!
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself that we won’t find in your bio?
Well, I’ve lived in Texas my whole life, and yet still I have not owned a horse. I might just need to have a discussion about the no horse thing at the next family dinner, since my 3yr old daughter is head-over-heels for horses. She told my husband one Christmas that it’d only cost him a dollar and quarter to get her a horse, then afterwards said, “I want that horse!” every time she’d see one outside her car window. Based on my daughter’s conception of economics, for about $200 dollars Daddy could buy her all the horses she wanted.
What do you do in your spare time or when you are not writing?
That’s a loaded question. Heck, what do I not do? I have two very active kids, so when I’m not at the computer I’m hauling kids to and from school, making snacks, cooking, folding laundry, and the list goes on. But if I want to be truthful, my husband will say I don’t cook. But here recently I cooked up a chicken spaghetti that had him cleaning his plate. I use my cooking skills with discretion, sort of like Samantha Stephens with her witchcraft on Bewitched. Every now and then I surprise him with a little something, but not often enough to where he gets to expecting it out of me all the time.
Do you have a ‘day job’?
Writing is my day job. Other than that, I stay-at-home with my kids.
Where do you get your ideas?
I get them all from living in Texas. I grew up in Texas, and I lived in a small town most of my life. I love my state and the colorful Texans that populate it. If I can continue to keep my eyes and ears open, I’ll never suffer a shortage of ideas.
The whole Pretty Reckless thing actually came pretty easily once my husband told me to write about all things Texas. I’ve never meet a ‘real’ cowboy, but I knew a few boys who liked to dress like cowboys. So it was fun to twist the norm and play around with a cowboy Texas Ranger and his sassy ex Deputy girlfriend. Also, I went to college for a little while out in west Texas, so describing the feel of that particular area of Texas just came naturally.
What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
Chapter one hands down. The reasoning, well….I enjoyed tossing out the entire cast of quirky characters right out of the gate. It is the first time readers get to meet Deputy Laney Briggs, Texas Ranger Gunner Wilson, and cocky rancher Luke Wagner, and the circumstances that bring all the characters together in chapter 1 was a joy to write.
Can you tell us about any WIP’s?
At the moment I’m working on Pretty Careless, the fourth book in the Deputy Laney Briggs Series. It’ll be full of more surprises for Laney and my readers as well. Not to mention another slew of Laneyisms.
In the meantime, Laney will be back this year in not one, but two brand new books: Watcha Gonna Do with a Cowboy comes out late summer 2014, and Pretty Shameless releases late fall 2014.
What project are you working on now?
Still typing away at Laney Briggs, Gunner Wilson, and all things Pistol Rock, Texas. I swear that although they might be fictional characters, they own me right now.
Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?
In addition to the gratitude I wish to extend to everybody that has read, reviewed, and loved Pretty Reckless so far (or will do so soon!), I’d like to say that y’all better strap on your boots, because this wild, crazy ride has just gotten started.
Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us today Jodi, and we wish you well with Pretty Reckless and all that come after it!

Author: Jodi Linton
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Mystery
Release Date: March 2014
Laney Briggs has long been considered reckless, but she’s turned herself around—she’s respectably engaged and she’s become a Pistol Rock deputy sheriff. Everything’s fine until a dead body turns up and her ex, Texas Ranger Gunner Wilson, decides to stick his boots into the town’s first murder case.
Laney will be damned if she lets Gunner trample all over her turf and her chance at a quiet, contented life. His seemingly endless ability to undermine her resolve and her libido was only outdone by her constant urge to butt heads with him. But when the bodies start to pile up, Laney has to ask the lethal bad boy for a hand—and a truce in exchange for his help.
Having an ex-boyfriend as an ally might not be the best idea, but Laney has always been pretty reckless…
