Paris Letters

“How much money does it take to change your life?”

Unfulfilled at her job and unsuccessful in the dating department, Janice MacLeod doodled this question at her desk. Then she decided to make it a challenge.

Over the next few months, with a little math and a lot of determination, she saved up enough to buy two years of freedom in Europe.

But she had only been in Paris for a few days when she met a handsome butcher (with a striking resemblance to Daniel Craig)—and never went home again.

A love story in the vein of Almost French and Lunch in Paris, Paris Letters (February 4) is a joyful romp through the City of Light, and an inspiring look at what can happen when we dare to create the life we want.

Realizing that her Parisian love affair would be forever, MacLeod began her own business on Etsy, creating beautifully-illustrated letters from Paris inspired by artists like Percy Kelly and Beatrix Potter. She now paints and writes full-time, bringing beautiful things to subscribers around the world and reviving the lost art of letter-writing.

Book Review ~ Chained by Night by Larissa Ione

Title: Chained by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampire #2)
Author:
Larissa Ione
Release Date:
September 30th 2014
Publisher:
Pocket Books (Simon & Schuster)
Source:
Received from the publisher for an honest review

THE FUTURE OF HIS TRIBE

Leader of the vampire clan MoonBound, Hunter will do what he must to save his people from extinction—or worse, a torturous eternity as vampire slaves and subjects of human experimentation. To keep his enemies at bay, he has agreed to mate a rival clan leader’s daughter in return for peace between the clans and an ally in the looming war with the humans.

THE LOVER OF HIS SOUL
But survival comes at a price. First, Hunter must break an ancient curse by successfully negotiating three deadly tests. Then he must resist the searing passions of the gorgeous vampire warrior he despises but is bound to mate. Will Hunter stay true to his word? Or will he risk everything for the woman he really loves: the vampire seductress’s identical twin sister.

I am completely blown away by the level of awesomeness contained between the pages of Chained by Night. From the very first page I was held completely captive, taken away to an alternate plain where vampires fight for survival against the oppressive and tormenting humans.

Hunter is pure unadulterated, sinful sex on legs – OMG – love him! Bronzed Native American muscle wrapped around a loving soul who wants nothing more than to protect his people and bring about peace.

Aylin is amazing – not a whiney, woe-is-me moment to be seen. She is full of spunk, determination and wonder for a world she has been kept hidden from. A no-nonsense, honorable female, worthy of the ultimate alpha male.
I’ll be honest – I was a little doubtful about the success of this series. I found book #1 to be clunky and the MC’s pissed me off, but wow – what a difference! Chained by Night was everything a reader hopes for in a book; an emotionally charged love story full of smouldering looks and dastardly rival clans causing dissension and mayhem.

I even liked Nicole and Riker so much more this time around! And Myne, oh Myne... he pulled some serious heart strings. He is so tortured and lost; I just want to save him from himself! But I am really hopeful that Larissa Ione has an amazing love for him in the form of a tree climbing, disappearing, bounty hunter! I can’t wait to see what is in store for Myne and the rest of the MoonBound clan, I am so excited to read more.

Chained by Night took me on a blood thirsty thrill ride with some hot and steamy moments that had me trembling with desire for a Hunter of my own – my faith in this series has been restored!

Book II of The MoonBound Clan Vampires series
“Ione’s second MoonBound Vampires paranormal deftly uses a mixture of complex rivalries, primal violence, and sex to portray a society in which frequent vampire enslavement provokes a civil-rights dispute…Ione’s characters are relatable and sympathetic both because of and despite their id-drenched setting, and Ione’s flavor of vampirism produces a fascinating mixture of authoritarianism, atavism, and compassionate humanity that works on multiple levels.”
Publishers Weekly STARRED REVIEW August 25th
“Ione has created a fascinating vampire world steeped in Native American traditions and lore and developed a path to happiness for Hunter and Aylin that is fraught with potent and poignant internal and external conflicts. The action-packed plot and creative worldbuilding keep us enthralled; the romance and sexual tension keep us emotionally invested.”
Kirkus Reviews August 28th online, Sept. 15th print

“Major talent Ione is back with the second installment in her gritty new MoonBound Clan Vampire series, where vampires live under the threat of enslavement and torture by humans.  Ione’s vampire world is made up of sometimes warring clans who fight against each other as well as humans.  Uniting the clans may be the vampires’ best hope for survival in the upcoming war with humans.  With so much at stake, these excellent character relationships are fraught with intense and conflicting emotions.  Hang on tight, as this is one exciting and dangerous world!”

Book Review ~ Reaver by Larissa Ione

Title: Reaver
(Lords of Deliverance #5)
Author: Larissa Ione
Release Date:
December 17th 2013
Publisher:
Grand Central Publishing
Source: Received from the publisher via NetGalley

WARRIOR OF HEAVEN

Reaver is an angel with a past, a record, and a less-than-heavenly attitude. Powerful enough to fight alongside the fiercest battle angels-and crazy enough to risk his wings on a one-way mission to hell-he's agreed to go where no angel has ever gone before...to steal the most seductive and dangerous prize of Satan himself.

ANGEL OF HELL

Harvester is one of the Fallen, a once-heroic angel who sacrificed her wings to work as an undercover agent in hell. But now her cover has been blown, and she's been doomed to an eternity of agonizing torture. Even if Reaver can snatch her away from Satan's lair, even if they can fight their way out of the underworld's darkest depths, there is one thing Harvester can never escape-her newfound thirst for an angel's blood...

My Thoughts

I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was expecting a little more from Reaver by Larissa Ione. Because with such a long history to their love/hate relationship, I was anticipating a whole lot of fireworks and tension to be present between Reaver and Harvester. However, I found the first half of the book – while nearly all based in Sheol (Hell) – rather tame and restrained.

I just wanted so much more pain, torture and pure evil that is associated with Satan, Lucifer and Hell, to be rained down on Harvester and Reaver! I also felt that Harvester lost what little bitchiness she had in this book all too quickly and easily and Reaver… Reaver didn’t feel like the Reaver I’ve come to know. He felt like a shadow of his former awesomeness!

However, the second half of the book picked up quite a bit (thank God!)
I loved re-visiting characters from the Demonica series; I loved the interactions and excitement I always feel with the Horsemen and when it was all said and done, I ended up loving Reaver!

Larissa Ione made it work; she came through at the end. Reaver and Harvester got their HEA (of sorts) and Heaven and Earth were saved (for now)

And with so many secrets revealed, little hints at things to come, I can happily sweat it out and speculate about the next book in this great series (roll on May 2014!) 4 stars

Book Review: Bound by Night by Larissa Ione

Title: Bound by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampire #1)
Author: Larissa Ione
Release Date: September 24th 2013
Publisher: Pocket Books
Source: Received from the publisher via NetGalley

A WOMAN OUT FOR BLOOD
Nicole Martin was only eight years old when the vampire slaves rose up in rebellion and killed her family. Now she devotes her life to finding a vaccine against vampirism, hoping to wipe out her memories—along with every bloodsucker on the planet. But there’s one thing she cannot destroy: her searing, undeniable attraction for the one man she should hate and fear the most . . .

A VAMPIRE OUT FOR REVENGE
A member of the renegade vampire MoonBound Clan, Riker is haunted by demons of his own. When he recognizes Nicole and remembers how her family enslaved his loved ones, his heart burns for vengeance. But when he kidnaps Nicole and holds her in a secret lair, his mortal enemy becomes his soul obsession, his greatest temptation, and, perhaps, his only salvation—a hot-blooded lover who could heal him with her touch . . . or bury him forever.

My Thoughts

I’m a big fan of Larissa Ione, especially her ‘Lords of Deliveranceseries, so I was eager to see what she could do with her own brand of vampires.

The first half was slow and a bit long-winded with its background, history and world building etc, but that sometimes happens with the first book in a new series. Allowances tend to be made for that fact. But I also didn’t really care for either Nicole or Riker all that much. I found them both to be very self absorbed and bitter. I really couldn’t find many redeeming features.

However, the second half picked up considerably. Events (no spoilers!) brought out another side to the characters, revelations about them changed my opinions of them, the story began to take on an interesting shape and I was very pleased with how it all played out. This was the Larissa Ione I have come to love.

Overall, I enjoyed where this book went, it just took a long time to get there.

I’ll reserve judgment on the authors new vampire world until the next installment but I think it shows promise, a reasonable 3.5 star read.

Book Review: Rogue Rider by Larissa Ione

Title: Rogue Rider (Lords of Deliverance #4)
Author: Larissa Ione
Release Date: November 20th 2012
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
Source: Received from the publisher via NetGalley

They're here.

They ride.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Born of a match between good and evil, four siblings stand between hell's minions and everything they want to destroy. They are the Lords of Deliverance, and they have the power to ward off Doomsday . . . or let it ride . . .

Jillian Cardiff came to this remote mountain town to forget the demon attack that almost killed her. Instead, she rescues-and falls for-a gorgeous stranger who has no memory of anything other than his name. Handsome, charming, and protective, Reseph seems like the kind of man whom Jillian can trust. But with hints of a troubling history of his own, he's also the kind of man who can be very dangerous . . .

Reseph may not know why he mysteriously appeared in Jillian's life, but he knows he wants to stay. Yet when Jillian's neighbors are killed, and demon hunters arrive on the scene, Reseph fears that he's putting Jillian in danger. And once it's revealed that Reseph is also Pestilence, the Horseman responsible for ravaging the world, he and Jillian must face the greatest challenge of all: Can they forget the horrors of a chilling past to save the future they both desire?

My Thoughts

So this is going to be one of those reviews that is hard to write because I'm finding it difficult to articulate my thoughts, but in doing so, will probably piss off half the population of Ione fans!

I wanted to love Rogue Rider.
I had high hopes for Reseph and the woman who would be his mate.
I wanted so much for this to be a real bad-boy-gone-good-but-still-a-little-bad-but-finally-comes-good emotional roller coaster of a read.
But what I got was a weak, disjointed, convoluted mish-mash of a story that I found to be unappealing and boring.

Don't get me wrong, there were a few moments of the brilliance that is Larissa Ione's story writing, but around the 45% mark I was bored and stopped reading it for a few days. I couldn't connect with Jillian, I found her to be cold, unlikeable, and far too staid and Reseph was too nice with barely any hint to his Pestilence past - the whole thing just felt off to me.
And once I picked Rogue Rider back up, I had the Aegis, DART, the other Horsemen, the Watchers, Demonica characters and Archangels to add to the story and the whole thing became a juggling act - and I was dropping the pins fast!

At the end of the day, I love Larissa Ione's characters but I just felt that she sacrificed some of Resephs story in order to round out and tie up some ends and create new plot lines.

Will I continue to buy her books? For sure!
Am I already dying to read Reaver's story? Absolutely!

But for me, this was probably her weakest book in the series and only gets a 3.5 stars out of 5 :]

Book Review: Lethal Rider by Larissa Ione

Title: Lethal Rider (Lords of Deliverance #3)
Author: Larissa Ione
Release Date: May 22nd 2012
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
Source: Received from the publisher via NetGalley.

They're here. They ride. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Born of a match between good and evil, four siblings stand between hell's minions and everything they want to destroy. They are the Lords of Deliverance, and they have the power to ward off Doomsday...or let it ride...

Thanatos, the most deadly Horseman of the Apocalypse, has endured thousands of years of celibacy to prevent the end of days. But just one night with the wickedly sexy Aegis Guardian, Regan Cooper, shatters centuries of resolve. Yet their passion comes with a price. And Thanatos must face a truth more terrifying than an apocalypse-he's about to become a father.

Demon-slayer Regan Cooper never imagined herself the maternal type, but with the fate of the world hanging in the balance she had no choice but to seduce Thanatos and bear his child. Now, as the final battle draws closer and his rage at being betrayed is overshadowed by an undeniable passion for the mother of his child, Thanatos has a life-shattering realization: To save the world, he must sacrifice the only thing he's ever wanted-a family.

My Thoughts

Yet again, author Larissa Ione has produced a story that is not only sexy, gritty, and intriguing, but is so damn gripping you attack it like a starving dog devours a bone. Awake into the wee small hours, I just could not put Lethal Rider down until I was finished.

Larissa Ione's talent for writing with equal measures of sex, violence, and impending doom - and a little hope, has yet again blown me away.
Her character developments are such, that you cant help loving every player including the ultimate bad ass!

Fearsome and sexy, this latest roller coaster ride will leave you exhilarated and gasping for more - I for one am eagerly awaiting another ride(r).

5 out of 5 Stars ~<;]
