TEASER One

Matthew didn’t even bother to look in the direction I pointed. He didn’t seem interested at all.

“I’d rather stay here. I think you like me here too.” With his eyes intentionally locked on mine, he took a big gulp of his drink, and EVER so slowly, licked away some that escaped with a long, seductive stroke of his tongue. Watching him made me quiver…EVERYWHERE. My face became as hot as my drink, and naughty thoughts rushed through my mind…I wanted to be the cup he just licked. Managing to snap out of my fixed trance I said hastily, “Fine. Suit yourself. I’m not going to talk to you.” My eyes went straight to my laptop, but I was dying to ask him a question.

********

TEASER Two

When he probed with more questions about what I looked for in query letters, I told him I liked romance novels and I basically looked for potential book boyfriends.

“Book boyfriends?” He chuckled out loud. As I watched, his chest moved to the rhythm of his laugh. “Really?” He took his last bite and chugged his coffee.

“Yes…really.” I had already finished my plate since I was too nervous to talk.

“Is that like for people who can’t get one in real life?” He was totally amused by this notion.

“No…silly,” I giggled. “Readers read books to help them escape from the daily routine of life. Many of these romance books have a swoon-worthy, gorgeous guy with really nice abs and a six pack, who can deliver wild, hot sex.” Just the thought alone made me turn red and I froze when he gave me a heated look. Then, his eyes concentrated on my lips, shifted to my breasts, then back up to my eyes when I said ‘wild, hot sex.’ I just described him and what he could potentially do.

Gravitating toward me, his eyes locked lustfully on mine. His lips were just inches away as they parted to speak and I didn’t know how he got so close to me. “I would like to be your book boyfriend,” he said with the hottest sound that could sing out of his lustrous, lick-able mouth. The puff of his breath on my lips sizzled way down to my sex. He reached out to my face, his thumb sensually sliding, feather light to touch my bottom lip with one long, slow stroke. As I watched his tongue glide over his bottom lip at the same time, I quivered beyond control.

Completely dumbfounded, I sat there staring at him and in my mind, I had already taken off my clothes for him. Blinking because that was all I could do, I wanted to say yes, but my pride and my head knew better and stopped me.

Suddenly, he broke his gaze and it felt like he had just dumped ice water over my head. “Is that what a book boyfriend would say and do?” he chuckled as he picked up our plates and took them to the kitchen.

What just happened? I was almost certain my face was deep red, because I felt it down to my toes.

TEASER Three

Aaron suddenly stopped talking, looking over me. Feeling the warm sensation on my arm, I turned to the person who had put it there. Matthew’s smile gave me fluttering tingles in my stomach, which pissed me off.

“Do you mind? I’m having fun.” I nudged his hand off me.

Matthew glanced at the shot glasses, then back to me. At first, he narrowed his eyes at me disapprovingly, but then they became playful. “You like to do shots? You like to swallow?”

I twitched my brows. “Only ones that squirt in my mouth.” I could not believe I’d said that, and from the expression on his face, neither could Matthew. His eyes sparkled with amusement, trying not to give me a grin, letting me know how much he liked my answer. I just couldn’t help myself. A perverted question deserved a perverted answer.

Release Day Blitz With Interview & Giveaway ~ I Found You by Jane Lark

Publishing date 5th December 2013

Tomorrow is for regrets. Tonight is for being together.
On a cold winter night, Rachel and Jason’s lives collide on Manhattan Bridge. She’s running from life, he’s running toward it. But compassion urges him to help her.

His offer of a place to stay leads to friendship and trouble. There’s his fiancée back home in Oregon and a family who just don’t trust this girl from the wrong side of the tracks.

But when the connection between them is so electric, so right… everyone else must be wrong. And as the snow begins to settle on the Hudson, there’s nothing but the possibility of what could be – of this, right here, right now. Them.
You’re known for your passionate and intense historical stories, why did you decide to make the move from writing Regency Romances to a New Adult story?
That’s with thanks to Sapphire Star Publishing who published the first edition of The Illicit Love of a Courtesan and spotted that my writing style would really suit the New Adult genre because of the intensity I develop between the lead male and female characters.
When they asked me to write a modern story, especially as they particularly asked for it to be set in America, I’ll be honest I wasn’t sure I could do it, but then within an hour, an image of Rachel standing on a bridge, alone, at night, came into my head and I was seeing her through the eyes of Jason. The story unravelled from there.

Do you plot out stories when you write?
No, and yes. I saw someone recently who had a ton of post-its spread out on a desk, and I know others who have charts and images on walls. I don’t do any of that. My plots are all in my head.  I guess usually by the time I start actually writing… because my mind will be making up the next story while I am writing the last, I do have a whole story mapped out. It comes out in scenes. When I am nodding off to sleep at night my brain just throws out a pathway of scenes for a story to take it from a beginning through a journey to the end. I tend to relate it to films, as I see it like a film in my head, and in films stories are mapped in scenes. So when I start writing I usually have all the key scenes and then as I build the story sometimes a couple more slip in.

Where do you write?
Everywhere J I still have a full-time job to pay the bills at the moment, so I have to squeeze my writing into every other moment. Sometimes I slip an hour in before I go to work, although I can do this less now I have an hour’s drive into work. But generally as soon as I get in from work I open my laptop and check emails, Twitter and Facebook, and do any blog work, and then I start writing, although sometimes I don’t even get as far as starting until ten o’clock. Thank heavens for the weekends because then I can get a good chunk in, although I write a historical blog post on Sundays. But I do frequently take the laptop with me in the car if we are going shopping or out somewhere and they’ll be enough of a drive to make it worth me writing while my husband’s driving. My laptop is a bit like a permanent attachment.

Where do your inspirations come from?
With my historical stories, my inspiration comes by reading memoires and letters and I take the reality of situations from these to build fictional stories and scenes. But with my New Adult books, I guess they come from life, from things I hear and see, again facts woven into fiction. I’ve spoken in some other posts about the night I met a girl in a pub who’d just been made homeless and I took her in, which is what Jason does for Rachel in I Found you, and its’ things like that which will generate ideas I guess, my experiences and things I’ve heard about and read.

What are your plans for future stories?
Well they’ll be more Historical Romances and more New Adults, they’ll be a New Adult novella out in the new year, and a another full story following two of the characters from I Found You out in the spring. But my Historical Romances are going to continue too, a lot of them are already written in draft and so they will be rolling out quickly in 2014, there is still so much more to tell about the Marlow family.

Jane is a writer of authentic, passionate and emotional Historical and New Adult Romances.
She began her first novel at sixteen, but a life full of difficulty derailed her as she lives with the restrictions of Ankylosing Spondylitis.
When she finally completed a novel it was because she was determined to be able to say I’m a writer.

Now Jane is thrilled to be giving her characters life in others’ imaginations at last.

Jane is also a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development, and uses her knowledge of psychology to bring her characters to life.

‘Basically I’m a sucker for a love story. I love the feeling of falling in love and it’s wonderful to be able to do it time and time again in fiction, plus my understanding of people helps me write the really intense relationships I enjoy creating.’

Book Review ~ The Betwixt Series Omnibus by Melissa Pearl

The Betwixt Series includes Betwixt, Before and Beyond.
Follow the lives of two teenagers who have to discover that sometimes to find your way, you have to get completely lost. This emotional series deals with the consequences of bad choices, young love... and the ultimate power of redemption.

BETWIXT
Beautiful, wild-child, Nicole Tepper, is hit by a car and left for dead. But when she wakes the next morning, Nicole finds herself in bed without a scratch. Perhaps she was more intoxicated than usual, as her mother is giving her the silent treatment and her friends are ignoring her as well.

Things take a turn for the weird when Nicole soon discovers she is actually hovering between life and death. Her body is lying in the forest while her spirit is searching for anyone who can hear her. Unfortunately the only person who can is Dale Finnigan, the guy she publicly humiliated with a sharp-tongued insult that has left him branded.

Desperate, Nicole has no choice but to haunt Dale and convince the freaked-out senior to help her. Will he find her body before it's too late? Or will the guy who tried to kill her with his car, beat him there and finish her off before anyone finds out?

BEFORE
In this prequel to BETWIXT, find out who Dale Finnigan was before he became known as“scar-face”—the unassuming hero everyone underestimates.

BEYOND
In this sequel to Betwixt, find out how Nicole Tepper proves to Dale that she loves him beyond all common sense.

My Thoughts

The Betwixt Series by Melissa Pearl has been one of my favorite reads for 2013. Not only does the author capture all things teenage to perfection, but she does it with a flare and ease that has you falling in love with all her characters.

Dale is such a sweetie, but with just enough of a wild streak to make him a bit bad-ass too!
And although Nicole starts out as a royal pain in-the-butt, she soon redeems herself and proves to be a strong and loyal friend.

Through many ups and downs, almost impossible odds, and powerful and misguided people throwing obstacles in their way at every turn; Dale and Nicole come through it all together.

A beautifully written and powerfully charged series of books that should be on everyones to-be-read list!

At nineteen, Ryan leaves to join the Australian Army. After years of training he becomes an elite SAS soldier and deploys to the Afghanistan war. Returning home after six years, one look is all it takes to know he can’t live without her. But sometimes love isn’t enough to heal what hurts. Sometimes people like him can’t be fixed, and sometimes people like Finlay deserve more than what’s left.

This is a story about war and the cost of sacrifice. Where bonds are formed, and friendships found. Where those who are strong, fall hard. Where love is let go, heartache is born, and heroes are made. Where one man learns that the hardest fight of all, is the fight to save himself.

Excerpt

Two weeks later, he packed his belongings and stole his way into Fin’s room. She wasn’t there, so he stretched out on her bed, hands tucked behind his head, eyes trained on the ceiling, and waited.

It was midnight when she came through the door, giggling as she read a message on her phone. Finished, she tossed it on her bedside table and froze when she caught him lying there in the dark.

He heard her breath catch. “Ryan?”

The lamp by her bed switched on, coating the room in a warm, cozy glow. Fin was illuminated, her skin golden in the soft light, her cheeks flushed with happiness.

“What are you …” She trailed off after meeting his eyes. He knew what she saw. He couldn’t hold any of it back—regret, heartache, and loss for something that had never been his.

“You’re leaving,” she choked out.

Ryan couldn’t speak. He watched her stride to the open window, its sheer white curtains billowing. Staring out into the night, she wiped away tears that spilled over and ran down her cheeks.

He blinked, his own eyes burning. “I’m sorry,” he said eventually.

Fin turned and walked across the room. Sinking to the edge of the bed, she stared down at her hands. “When?”

Ryan unlocked his hands from behind his head and reached for her, pulling her down beside him. She stretched out, tucking her head under his chin. Closing his eyes, he breathed her in, allowing his arms to wrap around her. “In the morning.”

Fin’s hand fisted in his shirt as she let out a sob.

“I have to do this,” he whispered hoarsely. He trailed his fingers through her hair and touched his lips to her forehead.

She started to wipe away the tears on her face, and Ryan took hold of her hand, stilling her. “You understand, don’t you, Fin, why I have to do this?”

Ryan needed to know that she understood he wasn’t leaving her, he was leaving his past, and trying to build a new future with the Army.

“I do.” She choked again and buried her face in his neck, sobs breaking free.

“Don’t,” he whispered thickly. “Please don’t cry. You have such a big future ahead of you. You’re going to do big things with your life. Don’t let anyone stop you from being who you need to be, okay?”

Fin nodded into his neck.

Ryan pushed back so he could look her in the eye. He wouldn’t be there to watch over her anymore, so he needed to know she would look out for herself. “Promise me, Fin.”

“I promise.”

Satisfied, he reached out and switched off the lamp. Thrust into sudden darkness, Ryan laced his fingers in hers and held her close. When her tears dried up, she drifted off into a deep slumber. In the early hours of the morning, he pressed a soft kiss to her cheek, and disentangling himself, he left the room. Having already said his goodbyes to Mike and Julie earlier in the evening, Ryan clicked the door shut softly behind him and left the house, careful not to look back.

That was the last he saw of Finlay Tanner.
